In 2022 British Heart Foundation (BHF) was honoured to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the Arora Ball. The funds raised at this prestigious event have helped BHF power lifesaving research and deliver vital information and support for families across the UK.
Every three minutes, someone in the UK dies from cardiovascular disease. Millions more are living with the consequences these conditions can have on everyday life: these are our friends and neighbours. Our grandparents, children and siblings.
Cutting-edge research and innovation are key to saving and improving lives, giving hope to the 7.6 million people living with cardiovascular disease in the UK.
“BHF-funded research has already helped to nearly halve cardiovascular disease deaths over the last 50 years. We have made so much progress, but there is so much more to do. Our work is only possible thanks to our community of visionary supporters, so we were incredibly grateful to be chosen as a beneficiary of the Arora Ball in 2022. Thank you for helping us continue to save and improve lives and keep families together for longer.” Dr Charmaine Griffiths, Chief Executive, British Heart Foundation.
Since the Arora Ball we have funded around £100m of groundbreaking new research every year, as well as delivering trusted information and support. Donations raised at the Ball have helped to power this vital work.
Here are some highlights of what we have achieved over the last three years, thanks to supporters like you.
Lifesaving research
BHF has funded ambitious research projects like CureHeart, a once-in-a-generation search for a solution to inherited heart conditions. We’ve launched groundbreaking strategic initiatives which hold the promise for rapid progress towards new treatments in areas such as heart failure and vascular dementia. We’ve backed talented scientists driving forward advances in artificial intelligence, regenerative medicine and genomics that offer extraordinary potential to change how we prevent, diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases. And we’ve invested in projects to translate science into new diagnostics, treatments and cures.
A silent killer
Inherited heart muscle diseases are silent killers that devastate families across generations. Working across borders and disciplines, the world-leading CureHeart team is making progress towards the first treatments and cures for these conditions, which affect an estimated 30 million people worldwide.
CureHeart is bringing hope to families like Inderdeep’s.
Inderdeep’s son Maninder collapsed at home when he was just 16. At hospital he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Tests later revealed that Inderdeep and her youngest son Manvir also have the genetic change that can cause HCM.

A lifeline when we’re needed most
We’re on a mission to give everyone affected by cardiovascular disease the best hope of living a long and healthy life. We provide trusted information and support that is more vital than ever in the face of significant pressures on the NHS. In 2024-5 alone, our online health content was viewed 37 million times – covering answers to heart health questions big and small. Demand for our Heart Helpline continues to grow – with nearly 30,000 contacts over the last year, our expert cardiac nurses responded to queries about medication, symptoms and test results.
Saving lives in communities across the UK
Every year there are more than 40,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK. It’s an emergency with a survival rate of less than 1 in 10, but early CPR and defibrillation can more than double these chances. We’re working hard to improve access to CPR training and defibrillators. RevivR, our free, online CPR training programme is a groundbreaking tool that, in just fifteen minutes, teaches people how to save a life by performing CPR and using a defibrillator. More than 311,000 people have now completed RevivR, and thanks to our Community Defibrillator Programme we’re making more defibrillators available and accessible in places they are needed most.

Thank you
Our lifesaving work could not happen without our exceptional supporters, and funds raised through incredible events like the Arora Ball. Thank you for helping us move closer to our vision of a world in which everyone has a healthier heart for longer.
